Does Your Household Qualify?

To qualify for the Home Repair Grant your household must:

  • Have a qualifying home repair project
  • Have a total household income equal to or below 60% Area Median Income (see below) and provide proper documentation (AMI is subject to change)
  • Must be the applicant’s primary residence

Does Your Project Qualify?

Eligible projects improve the health and safety of your home. Examples of qualifying projects include:

Ready to Apply?

Submit a completed application including all supporting documentation. Incomplete applications will NOT be reviewed.

Contact us 913.229.3180 if you have any questions about the application. Missing and incorrect documentation will delay your application process.

Tip:

You can come into the office to get a paper application and support filling out the application.

*Build WyCo promises to never share your information with anyone, and we will only use it to help you apply for the home repair grant.

A complete application must include all of these documents: 

  • A copy of each household members government approved ID
  • A copy of the head of household's Social Security Card or ITIN letter
  • Filed income tax returns and W-2 for all working household members for the past 2 years
  • Proof of ownership of the home (taxes, deed, mortgage statements, home insurance, and/or insurance coverage)
  • A copy of Income Qualifying Documents:
    • 2 complete months of the most recent paycheck stubs for all working household members (if applicable). Pay stubs must show year to date paid and employer.
    • Proof of Social Security, Pensions, Child Support/Alimony, and/or Student Grant Payment (if applicable)

Schedule an Appointment

Once you have completed the application, call (913) 229-3180 to make an appointment to speak with one of our housing counselors. At this appointment we will review your application and supporting documents to determine if your household is eligible.

Home Visit & Assessment

If your household is eligible, the Home Repair Manager will reach out to schedule a home visit where they will determine if your project is eligible (health and safety, accessibility, and code compliance).

Homeowners 101

If your project AND household qualify, you will need to complete Homeowners 101, a simple course on homeownership, before the project will begin. Courses are available in English y en español.

You can pay for and take this class before you get approved for the grant to minimize delays after approval. If you choose to take the class in advance, you will be refunded the class fee if your project is approved.

Approval

Once you are approved, the home repair manager will contact you to select a vendor and start your project!
