We're looking for a Rental Property Manager to lead the day-to-day operations, financial performance, and regulatory compliance of our residential and commercial rental portfolio, including our House to Home Lease-to-Purchase program. You'll own budget accountability, tenant relations, maintenance coordination, and reporting for a multi-site affordable housing portfolio, while supervising a Maintenance Technician.

COMPENSATION: $45,000 - $55,000 annually, Full-time benefits eligible position

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Manage the full residential and commercial rental portfolio, including leasing, inspections, maintenance, and vendor relationships.
  • Develop and manage property budgets; deliver monthly P&L statements, variance analysis, and delinquency reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with LIHTC, HOME, HUD, KHRC, and Fair Housing regulations.
  • Build tenant relationships and support renters transitioning to homeownership.
  • Maintain preventive maintenance, capital improvement, and unit upgrade plans.
  • Track portfolio KPIs and deliver regular performance reports to leadership and the Project Development Committee.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2–4 years of property management experience; affordable housing, LIHTC, or Section 8 experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, P&L, and variance analysis.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and a property management system (Yardi, AppFolio, or similar).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple properties and deadlines.
  • Reliable personal vehicle and smartphone for property visits.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

The Maintenance Technician plays a key role in the day-to-day operations of Build WyCo's 80+ unit housing portfolio across Kansas City, KS and Valley Falls, KS. This position is responsible for the physical upkeep and appearance of our properties, coordinating and carrying out maintenance programs that cover interior and exterior conditions, timely work order completion, quality unit turn-arounds, and cost-effective inventory management. The Technician responds promptly to tenant maintenance requests, communicates proactively about planned preventive maintenance, and serves as a dependable point of contact for residents. The nature of property maintenance requires occasional availability outside of scheduled hours, including on-call response for maintenance emergencies. Our portfolio includes single-family, multi-family, and commercial units — approximately 70 units in Kansas City, KS and 14 units in Valley Falls, KS. This is a varied, hands-on role within a mission-driven organization, with opportunities to grow your skills and take on greater responsibility over time.

COMPENSATION: $24 - $26 hourly

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Perform repairs across trades including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and appliance repair
  • Maintain daily communication with the Property Manager to align on priorities, report on work status, and flag any emerging issues.
  • Perform, and report on, all work according to the safety standards of the company, OSHA and health codes. Perform work area clean-up on a weekly basis.
  • Diagnosing and performing minor and routine maintenance/repair in a timely and professional manner within the property performance measurement.
  • Accurately document work performed on service requests using AppFolio or designated information system.
  • Follow-up on completed service requests to ensure satisfaction and follow-up on incomplete service requests, document progress and inform tenants as needed.
  • Promote good public relations with residents, co-workers, and company staff through great “people” attitude and resident trust.  Always display a friendly and courteous attitude towards residents and other employees.
  • Complete or oversee the completion of preventative maintenance.  Maintain accurate records and provide resident training as required.
  • Conduct pre-inspections of properties prior to annual syndicator reviews.
  • Purchase materials, work with vendors and get estimates as needed.

 Unoccupied rental units

  • Inspect vacated units and complete make-ready checklist.
  • Routinely perform duties to restore units to “make-ready” status within the property performance measurements.
  • Re-inspect vacant units after make-ready has been completed to determine quality of work performed.

 Emergency Repairs

  • Perform effective emergency maintenance (after hours) as required.
  • Be available for on-call or after-hours emergencies as needed.

Build WyCo Facilities

  • Perform routine property inspections.  Perform building and common area upkeep on a daily basis in accordance with company standards.  Assist in keeping grounds neat and free of litter, especially on Commercial units.
  • Assist with cosmetic, seasonal, and capital improvements to units and common areas as directed.
  • Help ensure sidewalks are free of snow and ice during the winter months for all Build WyCo facilities
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
  • Assist Real Estate Development team with Rehabs as time permits and with the approval of direct supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • General residential maintenance experience, at least 2 years of:

    • Knowledge of and previous experience in: Heating/AC repair, Plumbing, Electrical, Appliance Repair, Carpentry and/or General Maintenance Repairs
    • Knowledge of safety procedures, including the safe use of tools and adherence to building codes.
    • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training or certification in a relevant trade is a plus. (Preferred: trade certification or vocational credential)
    • Knowledge of LIHTC Inspection Standards (Preferred)
    • Reliable and punctual; able to follow through on commitments and communicate proactively when plans change
    • Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines; attention to detail and ability to spot and address minor issues before they escalate into major problems.
    • Ability to flex work schedule to accommodate after hour and weekend emergencies.
    • Must have your own vehicle and tools as well as a valid driver’s license. Successful applicants will posses and maintain a safe driving record, obey all applicable traffic laws, and drive in accordance with weather/road conditions

We are looking for a Resource Development & Marketing Coordinator to support transparent, consistent engagement with supporters, partners, neighbors, and other key stakeholders. The person in this role will be part of the Resource Development and Marketing teams, which are often the public “face” of Build WyCo, and will help foster accountability and trust with our neighbors by providing a comfortable guest experience at events, supporting transparent communications with our donors, and designing customer-centered marketing and outreach pieces. Internal collaboration is also a key part of this role, as the Resource Development and Marketing teams work regularly with other teams to develop grant reports, impact updates, and program outreach. This person will also work directly with our Executive team to provide administrative support.

COMPENSATION: $19 - $21 hourly

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Resource Development: 
    • Assist with planning and executing events, including event timeline, vendor management, invoicing, etc
    • Maintain consistent and accurate records in Salesforce to support donor engagement, grant management, and event planning.
    • Develop and send templated communications pieces to support donor engagement, including acknowledgement letters, thank you letters, reports, and appeals.
    • Compile reports and packets to support donor engagement.
    • Maintain up-to-date grant deadline reminders and communicate with team as-needed to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Marketing and Communications 
    • Support program teams with planning and executing customer engagement events
    • Work with Marketing team to improve engagement and reach by analyzing relevant social metrics, insights, and best practices
    • Work with Marketing team to generate original content
    • Draft copy and design for digital and print collateral including flyers, brochures, and graphics to support the development of programs.
    • Draft website, email, and social media marketing content to support the development of programs.
    • Table at community events to support program marketing, volunteer recruitment, and building awareness for Build WyCo’s work.
    • Assist with interviewing customers or curating testimonial quotes for use in marketing material.
    • Assist with updating website content (via WordPress)
    • Draft, edit, and publish mass mailings (via Mailchimp)
    • Help produce branded assets like signage, merchandise, brochures, etc.
    • Learn and apply brand voice and guidelines across all content.
  • Executive Support 
    • Attend board meetings and assist with corporate record-keeping as needed.
    • Schedule meetings and events on behalf of Executive Director.
    • Support Executive Director with note-taking, correspondence, and administrative tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience
  • Two years of combined experience in one or more of the following fields strongly preferred:
    • Nonprofit, customer service, sales, event management, project management, fund development, community outreach, or marketing/communications.
  • Scheduling experience
  • Knowledge and experience with data entry systems and reporting, Salesforce preferred.
  • Knowledge of the business-related use of social media tools: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn preferred.
